Purchasing Code of Ethics
- Officers must perform their duties impartially.
- Officers must avoid situations in which their private interests, whether pecuniary or otherwise, conflict or might reasonably be thought to conflict with, their University of Melbourne duties.
- Where the interests of any family member (spouse, children, siblings, parents) are involved or where officers possess an interest, directly or indirectly, which conflicts or might reasonably be thought to conflict with their University of Melbourne responsibilities, or improperly influence their conduct in the discharge of their responsibilities, they must disclose those interests to their immediate supervisor who will direct that the officer not perform that duty. Should circumstances change after an initial disclosure has been made, information must be disclosed.
- Officers must not exercise any authority or delegation to enter into a transaction as a result of which that officer or any family member of the officer may directly or indirectly receive any payment, benefit, consideration, opportunity or reward (whether individually or as a shareholder, partner, beneficiary or joint venturer).
- Officers must not use information obtained in the course of official duties to gain directly or indirectly a pecuniary advantage for themselves or for any other person.
Officers must not:
- Solicit or accept from any person any remuneration, benefit, advantage or promise of further advantage whether for themselves, their immediate family or any business concern or trust with which they are associated, over and above the official remuneration;
- Accept any gift, hospitality or concessional travel offered in connection with the discharge of the duties of their office.
Officers must be scrupulous in their use of University of Melbourne property and services, and must not permit misuse of such property or services by other persons.
Officers must also:
- Consider the interests of the University of Melbourne in all transactions and carry out the University of Melbourne's established policies;
- Seal fairly and consistently with suppliers and ensure that the confidentiality of commercially sensitive material is maintained;
- Be frank and honest in their dealings with colleagues;
- Accord a prompt and courteous reception to all who call on a legitimate business mission;
- Seek to develop and maintain levels of knowledge and skill commensurate with their responsibilities.
Officers must act in an appropriate and professional manner at all times while representing the University of Melbourne.
